It's a garrison

The Pope once was told, asked to recognize Israel. And the Jewish argument was we are a state. So, he said if you are state so act like a state and we will recognize you. Now imagine my tzuris – I have to side with the Pope. But I agree with him. You cannot have even in this wild crazy world, you cannot have a state behaving so rowdily like Israel. And it’s not a state. Again, and again, it’s a garrison. It’s a garrison. [Holocaust survivor Maryla (nee Husyt) Finkelstein, Interview on Democracy Now, youtube,  v=yUb61jengn0>. ]

I was amazed at the sea of green that I saw when I first arrived in the secular state of israel (SSOI). Outside of the Haredi areas, it's all soldiers. At first I thought, that's how much they hate us, that we have to put the entire youth in uniform. Now I see it as the state religion and a byproduct of their aggressive outlook on everything. We start up with everybody and wind up with an entire generation in uniform. You could say it's a result of taking the land by force. And regardless of what the UN suggested, much via intimidation, the zionists went to war and took the land by force. Whatever the cause, it's the reality. The country is a garrison.

Here, for example, is what you'll see on walls.

On sign posts:

On billboards:

Walking in front of you:

I didn't seek out this material. I took these all this morning just walking down the street. I looked at the wall, the photo of soldiers is what I saw. I looked up and saw that billboard of soldiers. I looked in front of my and there was a soldier. It's a garrison this place.

The only other postings I saw were for martial art classes.

Isn't that lovely, martial arts for girls and women.

Every motzei Shabbos on my way back from shul, I see people training in a parking lot, right after Shabbos, hitting punching bags in a parking lot. This week, I found out that 200 meters away is another boxing or fighting training center in a different parking spot in a building. This is in a frum area!

Recently I was at a wedding outside of Jerusalem and into the elevator stepped four sweaty guys with boxing gloves hanging around their shoulders. They also had a big dog with them which they brought onto a crowded elevator.

Have you noticed that nearly every Israeli contestant in the Olympics is in some martial art like Judo? SSOI has won 20 Olympic metals in the summer olympics over the decades. Half of them are in martial arts.

Medals by summer sport (through entire history of the secular state of israel)

Norway has 5.5 million people, less than half the true population of SSOI and 2/3 the official population of 9 million. It has won 576 medals.

33 are in sailing. 129 are in cross-country skiing. 87 in speed skating.

Look at the news in Israel, nearly every article is about the army and war.

Don't believe me. I'll go to the JPost right now.

Three of four articles about war and even the one about Israeli elections is really about war.

I took two buses today. Each time a ticket checker got on and checked everybody with his little machine to make sure they paid. I encountered as many checkers as I did bus drivers.

There is so much security in this country, so much policing. It's a military base. Every time you walk in a mall, you have to pass the security guy and get your bag checked.

In Tel Aviv, it's even worse. Everywhere you look is something dealing with war, pictures on the walls of hostages, demonstrations about war and hostages.

So you want to move to SSOI? You are picturing daily trips to the kosel? You are picturing dancing in a circle with the Judean Hills in the background? You are picturing getting a job in the alleged high-tech industry, which while always overhyped is dying from lack of investment due to the last year of combat?

That's not what you are going to get. You are going to get life on a military base. You have been warned.
