Ben-Gurion International Airport will handle 1.5 million passengers in July and 1.9 million in August for a total of 3.4 million for the peak summer season, a drop of close to 40 percent from pre-war levels, the Transportation Ministry and the Israel Airports Authority said on Sunday.
The total compares with 5.52 million in the summer of 2023, before Hamas' October 7 attack. That year, Ben-Gurion Airport saw 2.6 million passengers in July and 2.9 million in August. Traffic this year is expected to be similar to the summer of 2024, when foreign airlines suspended service due to the conflict with Hezbollah.
