Eretz Yisrael vs. Medinas Yisrael

Here's a quick story that encapsulates the difference. I exited shul and saw six dining room chairs waiting for the garbage man. But they were in decent shape and I knew of a person who could benefit from them. Suddenly, a neighbor walked by. "Nice chairs," he said. "I wonder who could use them." I said, "I know a guy. I just need a way to transport them." He said, "I have car." He brought it over and we loaded the chairs. That's Eretz Yisrael. There is significant hashgacha pratis here.

But the car wouldn't start. And this is the car of a relatively wealthy individual who is a major donor to a local yeshiva. But even he can't get a car that works. So I wound up wasting much time and going through aggravation checking in with him to see if he could get someone over to fix the car. And he wasted time and endured aggravation.

Eretz Yisrael vs. Medinas Yisrael. One works, the other does not.
