Remember that new fridge that has broken down three times now? Well, we finally, after many phone calls, got a repairman to our apartment. He was a decent guy, but he didn't fix it. He said the problem was that the fan iced over and once he cleared out the ice it should be fine. I said, I don't feel any cold air coming out. He said give it an hour.
Well we gave it three weeks and the fridge is warm, the food spoiled, and our nerves frazzled. We now have to get a fourth visit from the repairman. Each time costs 260 NIS.
Does Hershel Schacter know these stories when he claims that Israel has all the modern conveniences?
I'd love to tell him about our broken new water bar, our numerous broken phones, the crumbling bookshelves, broken washer, broken drier (that just cost us 550 NIS) the broken circuit board, the weak AC, the broken water heater, broken keyboards, broken fans, broken alarm clocks, and broken light fixtures. By broken, I don't mean that somebody broke them. They stopped working all on their own. You know what does work? What works just fine are the products we brought from America a decade ago. You know that country that has all the modern conveniences, the one where RHS lives as he fantasizes about Israel.
