The Modern Orthodox world is obsessed with aliyah. But be careful. The American Modern Orthodox personality is somewhat effete, certainly many of the men are. They are naïve and spoiled too. So they tell you to move to Israel and you expect to move to Israel and find a country full of people like this.
But you go to Israel and encounter Israelis. They generally are rough, aggressive, abrasive, and sarcastic. They are not like the aliyah loving rabbi you knew from Teaneck.

The IDF reservist was arrested but released a week later and all charges dropped. The guy he killed, David, was a Palestinian who converted to Judaism a few years earlier. He was waiting to catch a bus to Jerusalem where he was studying the Jewish religion. He was killed because he was speaking Hebrew with a Palestinian accent.
