Not a democracy

--------
On Tuesday, far-left lawmaker Ofer Cassif was expelled from the Knesset chamber for daring to speak the "G" word. "He will not say 'genocide' in here!" cried Likud MK Tally Gotliv.

Few were surprised that Cassif used the word. The member of the Hadash-Ta'al party has been penalized twice already during the war, suspended from Knesset activity both for supporting South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, and calling the actions of IDF soldiers in Gaza war crimes. In Israel, you don't vote for candidates, you vote for a party that appoints leaders. And it's hard to start a new party due to election thresholds. A political party must receive at least 3.25% of the votes in order to gain a seat in the Knesset.

As a result, you are stuck with the same leaders, decade after decade: Perez, Sharon, Netanyahu, Liberman, Bennett, Lapid, etc.

Conversely, in America, you vote for individual people and can even enter a write-in vote for whoever you want. You can vote for your grandmother. In Texas, tens of thousands of people write in the name Willie Nelson every year. Thus, in the USA new faces often appear in politics and Presidential administrations take their staff with them. New administrations mean new cabinet members and the old ones fade away.
