Even in the yeshivishe velt

 In shul, a man berates a 14 year old boy with whom he is "learning." Tells him that he's stupid, that even a cheder boy can understand the Maharsha, that he's worthless. Boy is found later in the park sobbing.

This happens in Israel fairly often. I have a friend who has witnessed it 3x in the last 3 months. It's a harsh society, even in the yeshivishe velt. Chilonim run the country and their mentality spills over into everything.
