Beit Shemesh, 6,500 NIS for a 3 bedroom apt. That means 3 small bedrooms and a small all purpose room with enough space for a small dining room table. That's 2,226.94 United States Dollars a month's rent.
In my observation, the typical oleh earns around 5,000 NIS a month. I had two different jobs that paid 5,000 a month. That's less than the rent. I know numerous olim who can't even find steady work at that salary.
In Oak Park, MI you can get a 3 bedroom house for $1,375/mo.
That comes with a front yard, back yard, living room, dining room, and den, i.e. area where kids can play without tearing each other to shreds. You might even have visitors.
According to Zip recruiter, "The average salary in Detroit, Michigan is approximately \(\$71,000\) to \(\$83,000\) per year, while the median salary is around \(\$69,000\) to \(\$73,000\)."
5,000 NIS a month is $20,000 a year.
So allow me to summarize. If you make aliyah, you will likely earn less than your monthly rent. If you and your spouse both work and ignore your children, you will have around $1,000 a month to spend on all your needs after rent.
If you move to Oak Park, MI, you will earn around $7,000 a month. Your rent is only $1,375. That leaves you with $5,625 to spend on your needs after rent. That is without your spouse working.
To top it off, there's no mandatory military service in Michigan.
Now I know you, I know your argumentative little mind. You want to schlug me up with talk of yeshiva tuition. Tuition at Yeshiva Beth Yehuda in Michigan is $9,000 a year. If you have four kids that's $36,000 a year. In Michigan, you have $67,500 a year after rent. Subtract tuition and you are left with $31,500. In Israel, with two parents working you have $12,000 after rent, then subtract tuition and you have arund $10,000 a year. And that's with one parent working in Michigan!
So in Michigan, you get a 3 bedroom house, with big rooms closets, a den, living room, dining room, front and back yard, and with one parent working and 4 kids in yeshiva you have $31,500 to spend on your life after rent and tuition.
In Israel, you get a tiny 3 bedroom apartment, with no closets, and one small all purpose room. After rent and tuition and with both parents working, you are left with $10,000 a year.
And cost of living aside from rent is lower in Michigan! That means clothes, food, and transportation.

So somebody explain to me please, is ours a religion of insanity? Who are these rabbis who are pressuring Americans to move to Israel? Are they stupid? Are they malicious? Are they just so spoiled that they have no idea what goes in the lives of regular people? Perhaps they think everyone is rich because those are the only types of people they ever took an interest in. You answer the question. I'll just stay as far away from them as possible.
