Back in the New York Groove

Yesterday was Monsey, today New York City. I don't know what New York I was remembering but the one I experienced today was incredible. I guess that's what living in Israel can do for you, make every other place seem like paradise.

The city is beautiful. The architecture is astounding. I was at the New York public library. My goodness. There isn't two inches in Israel that looks like that. Comparing New York City to any city in Israel is like comparing a black stallion to an alley cat. And please accept my apology alley cats for using you in this way. You are far more pleasant to look at than any modern Israeli city.

The infrastructure in New York is a miracle. It goes on and on and it mostly works. They have made such improvements in the trains. They are reasonably clean and punctual and the instructions over the loudspeakers and the arrival boards are really helpful. I found my away around so easily.

But here's what amazed me more than anything. I don't know why, but I remembered New Yorkers all wrong. They are so much more polite and considerate than Israelis. We do learn manners in New York. In fact, the TSA crew at JFK, which is a beautiful airport, was the most efficient and friendly that I have ever seen.

I used to think that I could never live in New York again. I think I could. Compared to Israel, it's Shangrala.

And there's so much religion in Monsey and Brooklyn. The line that Israeli Charedim are frummer than American Charedim is a bald face lie. They are very frum in New York.

I'm at a point where I cannot think of a single advantage that Israel has over America. Nothing. There's nothing better about Israel. Nothing. You will gain nothing by living there. You will only pay a steep price. Don't do it. Anybody who tells you to do it is a rasha gamur, I don't care who that person is. This is not a religion that is out to torture people, at least it's not supposed to be. But there are men and women who relish torturing you. They are the ones who push you via either guilt or lies to move to Israel. If they try it even once, never, ever talk to them again. If they are in your house, throw them out, immediately without explanation. Just scream, get out. If they bother you on the street spit in their face. If you hear them in shul, call them out, say shut up rasha. Because they will ruin you.

What was I thinking when I moved to Israel? I was not thinking, not even one drop.
