aliyah propaganda

Propaganda consists of selective portrayal of facts, statements without facts, and invented facts intended to create a false impression of reality. Beware of aliyah propaganda. Here's an example from the book The Gift of Eretz Yisrael. Judging by the haskamas, this is supposed to be a yeshivish book but the aliyah propaganda is present. This quotation leaves out the words that prefaced it. “He who is a complete tzadik who fulfills all the mitzvos and doesn’t violate any of them, he has a great merit if he dwells in EY..."   In other words, don't make aliyah unless you are a tzadik even if your mitzvos are better there. The author of the book left this point out because his goal is to push you to move to Israel since your mitzvos will be better there. And he's using the Satmar Rebbe to make that point but the Rebbe says don't move there unless you are a tzadik. So the author, being dishonest, left that part out.

delusional

Last night I went outside at 2 AM and when I stepped out of our tiny elevator that often breaks down I was surprised to see my neighbor and her daughter in the hallway talking. Why were they out there? It's because their apartment is so small, there's no place for them to talk.  I have a post here where I talk about the problems caused by the tiny apartments. Kids have no room to play and have to set up and take down their puzzles and legos. They get into fights because they are all playing on 1 square meter of space. There's no room for either sleepover guests or large families for dinner. Family can't come and stay with you even if you own a $800,000 apartment.  How much do you have to spend for a house that's barely large enough for sleepover guests? In Beit Shemesh, which is a 1 hour commute to jobs in Jerusalem and more than that to Tel Aviv  and 45 minutes from a hospital , you need to spend $1.6 million, that's dollars. In the local currency it's 5,55...

double the waiting time

I know a man who is having serious problems with his feet. He can barely walk now. He went to the local doctor in Israel who prescribed several tests for which there was a one month wait. The results caused the doctor to say that he should see a neurologist. That's a two month wait.  The wait in the USA for a neurologist is 34 days, half that of Israel. A study was done on this. For the study, researchers looked at two years of Medicare data to identify 163,313 people who were referred by a physician to see a neurologist. Participants had an average age of 74. Participants were referred by 84,975 physicians to 10,250 neurologists across the United States. For each participant, researchers calculated the time between the physician referral and their first visit with a neurologist. Researchers found the average wait time to see a neurologist was 34 days, with 18% of people waiting longer than 90 days. Researchers found no difference in wait times across race, ethnicity and sex. Wh...

one of the most misleading articles ever

I will now show to you one of the most misleading articles that I have ever seen in my life. Of course, it's from the Israeli press from what is viewed as one of its leading papers and it concerns haredim. It's above the fold. I ask, first of all, if the 'spy' were Hiloni, would the title say Young Hiloni man convicted of spying? If he were Dati Leumi would it say young Dati Leumi man convicted of spying And the answer is no! How do I know? Here: The title does not reference Dati Leumi Yonatan Urich who is a "chief suspect in the 'Qatargate' affair." " He grew up in a religious household and attended the Bar-Ilan religious state school in the city." (Wiki) See him with a Dati Leumi yarmulka? Here's another one: Three young men, including IDF soldier, arrested for running sex site blackmail scam Three young men operated a profile purporting to be a young woman on dating and sex sites, where they would blackmail victims to send them thousa...

Inquiries

Several times over the years, we have been contacted by people from chutz are interested in making aliyah. When we warn them that probably they should not come we never hear from them again. They are operating from programming that they should live in Israel and are contacting us only for information about logistics. What they are failing to do is the important first step of deciding if moving to Israel is a smart thing to do. Having been indoctrinated either that they are obligated to live in Israel, that Israel is the beginning of redemption, or that it's a fabulous place to live and the future for the Jewish people, their brains are focusing only on how to work it, not if they should at all. What they should be doing is contacting us again to hear more. What they proceed to do is go into the echo chamber and talk only to those who promote aliyah and provide inaccurate information that exaggerates the help available to olim and understates the many challenges.

problems with education and not improving

Israel has the second-most crowded classrooms among OECD countries, after Chile, according to a study by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)p ublished Monday. Israel pays teachers close to the OECD average, although starting salaries are in the bottom third of countries, and it spends 24% of its per capita GDP on education, below the OECD average of 25.3%, the study found. The latest figures showed that Israel’s average elementary school class size stood at 27 students in 2023 — unchanged from a decade earlier. https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-has-2nd-most-crowded-classrooms-but-pupils-get-above-average-hours-oecd/
